Healthy New Moms advocates for increased maternal mental health awareness and services throughout Maryland. Help us ensure more education and support for pregnant women, new moms and their families by getting involved in advocacy efforts!

Healthy New Moms participated in the Maternal Mental Health Task Force, which submitted its report and recommendations to the Legislature in December 2016. HB775 and SB600 were introduced during the 2017 legislative session based on recommendations from the report, and we’re happy to announce that both bills have passed with unanimous support! Governor Hogan signed the bills into law on April 18, 2017.

Thank you and congratulations to all the Maternal Mental Health Task Force Members who did the hard work to make this possible! This is a huge step in the development of a thriving maternal mental health system of care here in Maryland.

SB 600 and HB 775 require the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene to collect and disseminate maternal mental health information and tools for the public and practitioners, develop accredited CME training programs to improve early identification of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, and work to expand the BHIPP psychiatric consultation program to address the mental health needs of pregnant and postpartum women.
